Weight Comparison

A post that is not tea-related. I'm in the midst of rearranging my house and I'm drinking Lao Cha Tou; something I've ranted and raved over numerous times. Anyhow, my attention is focused on the fact that my new razor...

...weighs just as much as a McDonalds Quarter Pounder. Shaving has never been so awesome!

I remember those razors from when I was a kid (my Dads) where in the world did you find that? I didnt know they still made those.

My dad had an old Gillette DE razor that used to sit in his cupboard along with a badger brush and an Old Spice Mug. I used to constantly fiddle with them (no blades however...my father was a smart man) They're probably all collector's items now, I asked him about them recently and he said he had gotten rid of them. As for this, I bought it from West Coast Shaving. The sound and feel is totally different than anything I've ever shaved with.

he man. cool shaver.

I have some friends who are getting into straight razors for reasons such as: "a more mindful shave" and "most men throw away hundreds (or thousands) of disposable razors in their lifetime"

I have watch a few straight razor demos now on youtube and I have to admit I'm very intrigued! (If I ever get around to trying it I'll let you know)

"he man" should be "hey man"

(but that's a pretty cool typo)

You're absolutely right; "He Man" is a pretty cool typo! Were it up to me, all discussions about shaving would feature He-Man! He could be a personal shaving assistant. Then again, were that the case, you'd have to let a lot of other tough guys throughout history in on the fun too. Chuck Norris would want in, Clint Eastwood, then Van Damme, followed by Vin Diesel, several of the American Gladiators and even Ernesto Guevara de la Serna would join in on the fun. Can you imagine that elusive portrait holding a DE or straight blade? Oh history, how you would have been skewed! Sounds like free marketing to me! Anyhow, mostly I decided to start shaving this way because my facial hair grows fast and since I have to shave 3-4 times a week I may as well enjoy it.

A few years ago I had put some effort into finding one of these razors but never found any. Your post reignited my interest in them. So I just placed an order with West Coast Shave, 1 razor, 2 tubes cream and a couple extra boxes of blades. I dont really know why I wanted one of these, I just did. Looking forward to trying it out.

Bret(with one 't')

Excellent! Which ones did you end up going with? You'll have to let me know what you like and what you don't as I'm still pretty new to this world of shaving as well. Good luck with the weepers!

I bought the Merkur 1904 Classic razor along w/ a couple tubes of Proraso (green) shaving cream. I should have ordered a brush to go w/ this but I forgot. Oh well, next time.

I like the look of the handle on the 1904. Brushes can get quite pricey too. Honestly, I picked up a rather inexpensive boar hair brush at CVS of for $7.99. Solid plastic handle, but it's got a decent weight to it and does the job until I can justify dropping $50+ on a badger brush. Proraso is going to spoil you! Have fun with it!

He Man, got my razor and cream today and had to try it out. Shaving w/ a saftey razor is a little different in that you cant go just plowing around your face in any direction you feel like, you gotta go slow and in straight lines. I can also get into hard to reach places like under the nose w/ no problem. Though the razor slices through the thickest of beards (mine) I realize that the problem areas remain consistant regardless of what type razor you use. All in all, glad I bought one. The Proraso? Pure luxury.
